Officers Can Order Removal of Veils

Jack had jury duty last week and all over the courthouse were signs that referred to appropriate dress in the courthouse. Nowhere did it say that you couldn’t wear niqab or hijab. It also didn’t say you couldn’t wear a ski mask. Sometimes common sense has to prevail and finally a Maryland AG has ruled just that.

Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler has issued a legal opinion allowing security officers to require Muslim women and other people who cover their faces for religious reasons to remove their veils when entering courthouses. Gansler said law enforcement officers could require removing the cloth as long as they enforce a “neutral and generally applicable” standard to all groups.

It also didn’t say you couldn’t wear a fishnet dress in courtroom but common sense would tell a normal person that would disrupt the proceedings bigtime … don’t ya think!

You have to love it when common sense prevails … Jack does !
